My writing interests are varied, but my love of poetry writing started in childhood. I used to pen verse when I was nine or ten. I lost those poems when a fire destroyed my bedroom. I wrote poetry in middle school, college, and seminary. I edited poetry journals in middle school and seminary. My desire emerges from deep within me—in my soul. It’s not that I am an aspiring Rilke, Frost, or Coleridge. Verse writing is both a joy and a perplexity that I can’t let go. So I write.
I have only recently sought to publish my work. I have had a half dozen poems published so far, and now I add three more to that collection. I am pleased that Agape Review has published these poems. I am very grateful they published them. It is a fabulous publication. Please use the links below and enjoy.

Here is some background on each poem. Daily Prayer is addressed to the known background voice that says why aren’t you praying? You are supposed to pray every day, using a set of prayers. I have found fixed prayers difficult to follow some days, particularly when nature beacons my attention.
Have you ever had trouble sleeping? I sure have. Dark Night describes a time when sleep won’t return. The cause is distant memories that have returned out of nowhere. They have the power to stir emotions in powerful ways, causing my heart to pound like a drum. There are parts of ourselves that seem beyond the mind’s control, but I end with the assurance that I can remain myself despite such dark nights.
The final poem is addressed to my peers. Men in their 50s and 60s have reached a status of respect and wisdom, and today’s young men desperately need our guidance. What our culture has promised the younger generation of men is an emptiness of unfulfillable dreams. Generation to Generation calls on the older generation to help the younger generation discover values that last and bring fulfillment.
Let me know what you think. I would love to hear your thoughts.
I’m so happy for you and am excited to read these poems!
